Clare Church and Pete Lewis are originally from Illinois and now live in the Denver area. During Clare's 30+ years as a professional woodwind and saxophone player, she performed with the Dizzy Gillispie Big Band, the Joe Henderson Big Band, the Benny Carter Big Band, Natalie Cole, Nancy Wilson, the Four Tops, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, the Colorado Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra and more. She was a member of Art Lande's creative Boy Girl Band and the Colorado Saxophone Quartet and she recently toured with the Doc Severinsen Big Band. Clare can be heard on the recordings of many local and national bands including Boy Girl Band's Down the Corridor, and Polarity's King of Hearts. In her new role as a drummer, Clare performs with the Lewis/Church Quintet's Expeditions.
Saxophonist Pete Lewis has arranged and composed music for jazz combos, concert bands, sax quartets and big bands, including his creation, the Colorado Composers' Big Band. He has performed with the Joe Henderson Big Band, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, the Four Tops, the Temptations, Linda Ronstadt, Ben Folds Five, the Colorado Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra and more. He established the Colorado Saxophone Quartet performing classical and jazz compositions throughout the Western states. Pete has released two jazz CDs: Expeditions by the Lewis/Church Quintet and King of Hearts from his jazz-fusion ensemble, Polarity.
Their new CD, funded in part through Pathways To Jazz, will feature the original compositions of Pete Lewis as well as engagingly fresh arrangements of popular songs.
