Jazz pianist Keith Waters has performed with jazz greats James Moody, Eddie Harris, Bobby Hutcherson, Sheila Jordan, Meredith D'Ambrosio, Dave Liebman, and Chris Connor, playing in venues such as Blues Alley and Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and Blue Note and Village Gate in New York. He has recorded and performed throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Russia. In the Denver metropolitan area, he has performed with Rich Chiaraluce, Ron Miles, Phil Urso, Brad Goode, John Gunther, Ken Walker and many others. His recording Carolina Tracks (2012) assembled North Carolina's top jazz musicians. He has recorded with vibraphonist Jon Metzger (The Spinner, Teach Me Tonight), and was pianist on Phil Urso and Carl Saunders Salute Chet Baker.

Keith is Professor of Music (and Chair of the Composition and Music Theory Department) at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is author of Postbop Jazz in the 1960s, (Oxford University Press, 2019), the award-winning book The Studio Recordings of the Miles Davis Quintet 1965-68 (Oxford University Press, 2011), and co-author of Jazz: The First Hundred Years, now in its third edition.
